As the urban environment greatly influences people’s everyday lives, we believe that it should
always be up for discussion. The design of our public space is directly involved in shaping society and acts as the foundation for creating a more sustainable future. Therefore, we have created a platform for action, discussion & participation.

The built environment is made up of different public and private claims on space. The attributed meaning of those spaces and the activities of the people inhabiting them are inseparably connected. Our main task is to understand this interrelation and to act on it through physical and virtual intervention for the enhancement of communal wellbeing.

Space Pilota

SPACEPILOTA22 takes on the challenge of transforming public spaces in the city of Würzburg within the year 2022. Through research and exploration, we identify neglected spaces and unrealized potentials in the city’s fabric. Following an experime tal approach, we work with virtual and physical interventions and develop possible solutions and strategic approaches for the enhancement of our shared urban experience. Thereby, we want to give new perspectives on the future development of common spaces within our city.

The City of Würzburg is set to turn  parking area back into livable spaces for its citizens. A step that shows the city’s commitment towards a more human-centered and sustainable future. We want to use this momentum to inspire a discussion around the question of what we want our city to look like. What spaces do we need? What shapes our local identity? How can we take part in the decision-making in this decisive moment? We invite you to join us in this effort, to express your ideas and wishes and to make your voice heard. We invite you to emancipate yourself in the spaces you inhabit and to become an active part of the collective urban experience we are creating.

SPACEPILOTA22 thrives on interdisciplinary creativity and evolves through practical implementation and the reaction with the urban environment and its citizens. We deploy technology to collect resonance and to create visions and proposals for Würzburg’s streets and squares. The project is being developed in collaboration with the city of Würzburg and is currently running a research course at the Faculty of Architecture and the Faculty of Design at the Würzburg University of Applied Sciences.

SpaceUnited.Europe

spaceunited.europe is rooted in Europe, where comfort slows down change. In the face of an ecological crisis and increasing polarization, we believe in the transforming power of public space. Through design, we unlock urban potentials, emancipate the individual, overcome opposition, invite participation, and support cultural flourishing. We strive for meaning, inspiration, and new visions for public spaces.
